The next DLC for Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition has been unveiled. Dubbed Victors and Vanquished, this expansion marks a significant shift towards a campaign-focused experience, boasting a plethora of playable scenarios, many of which are inspired by beloved community creations. Scheduled for release next month, it promises to enrich the already immersive world of this remastered RTS.
The announcement of Victors and Vanquished took place during the franchise’s New Year, New Age stream, where it was revealed that Age of Empires has amassed over 50 million players since its inception over 25 years ago.
World’s Edge, the current stewards of the franchise, are following up on last year’s successful Return of Rome and The Mountain Royals expansions with a grand collection of 19 scenarios in Victors and Vanquished. This marks the largest offering in any Definitive Edition expansion thus far.
Overseeing the development of this DLC is Ramsey ‘Filthydelphia’ Abdulrahim, a former modder turned official campaign developer for the Definitive Edition since 2015. Reflecting the community-centric ethos, 14 scenarios in Victors and Vanquished draw inspiration from community favorites, receiving upgrades such as full voice acting, original music, gameplay tweaks, and bug fixes. Additionally, five entirely new scenarios are introduced.
The scenarios themselves are diverse and captivating. Players can embark on a Viking campaign following Ragnar Lothbrok’s raids across Northern Europe, delve into the political maneuvers of Otto the Great amidst the Vikings, Magyars, and Franks, or lead one of six unique clans as Oda Nobunaga in feudal Japan, including the stealthy Mori clan.
Alongside the announcement of the highly anticipated Age of Mythology Remastered, Victors and Vanquished is set to hit shelves sooner, arriving on March 14th.
